Fish and Chips, Newcastle

Posted by Bee on October 27, 2006

English food is not that diverse compares to other country’s. Most of the common food that i eat everyday is not originated from England anyway, for example pizza, lagsana and spaghetti are all from Italy, burgers and hotdogs are from America….. However, English do famous for their beers- the love of the binge drinkers, roast dinner and last but not least, fish and chips. Fish and chips is one of the most distinct and well known English food in those states which located near the coast. I have tasted the fish and chips in Liverpool and Manchester before, but the one in Newcastle is the best one i have eaten so far, it is so good that after ate that i will never eat the fish and chips in Liverpool anymore.

The fish and chips shop is just beside the seashore of a place called Tynemouth (if i’m not mistaken). After an nice and easy walk while enjoying the incredible view of the seashore, we dine in at a small cafe which is famous for its fish and chips, recommended by our tour guide, CS.

Before our orders came, we were served with toast and a small pot of english tea each. We get to choose whatever kind of fish that we like for the price of £4.70, i had choosen cod fish which has a softer texture. It surprises me that the fish actually consists of a WHOLE big fish. The portion was enough for 2 people and the best thing is, its good in quantity and quality as well. It’s freshly cooked and tasted awesome. No added artifical flavour, just the fish taste and the crispy thin layer of flour covering the fish. English people like to add vinegar and salt on the fish. For me, i just like the classic crispy taste and little bit of the tartar sauce.

Indeed, the Newcastle fish and chips is the best fish and chips in UK!
